Parrs Wood

This is a beautiful walk a short distance from the car park in Parrs Wood along the canal towards the famous Stockport pyramid on the M60. Easy walk for people who want a flat walk and can take pushchair with you

The trail follows a well-defined footpath which runs as close to the edge of the two rivers as possible to provide spectacular views of the waterfalls.

The Roaches and Lud's Church

Located in the Peak District National Park in England, The Roaches is a stunning ridge with many rock formations. The name ‘Roaches’ comes from the French word ‘roches’ which means ‘rocks’. At a height of 505 m (1,657 ft) it rises above the nearest town of Leek and Tittesworth Reservoir. Therefore, from the top on a clear day you can see much of Cheshire and even Snowdon in North Wales.

Enjoy this 2.60 mile, loop trail near Cheadle, Greater Manchester. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 1 h 17 min to complete. This trail is great for hiking, mountain biking, and trail running. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.

The classic circular of Pendle Hill. A gentle start to the walk past the Ogden reservoirs then leads into a grassy stroll before crossing bracken covered moorland. The climbing then starts in earnest, with ever expanding views afforded as more height gained. From the summit even Blackpool tower and the Lakeland fells can all be seen on a clear day. The walk then proceeds down the much walked steps back towards Barley.

The gardens are full of drama with spectacular views all year round. Paths climb up from the valley bottom passing by caves, cliffs, amazing trees and rhododendrons in spring. In the kitchen garden the restored glasshouse and back sheds sparkle in the sunshine and grow an array of exotic fruits.

Etherow Country Park has steadily grown over the years, and now covers an area of around 200 acres.  It lies at the heart of the Etherow-Goyt Valley, this is also the start of The Goyt Way, which is a 10 mile walk to Whaley Bridge

Only 9.5 miles from the city centre of Manchester, the area is both a haven for wildlife and an area where visitors can find peace and relaxation. The dark blue silhouette of the Welsh mountains can often be seen on clear days, as can the Pennine hills close by.

Chorlton Water Park is a Local Nature Reserve comprising a lake surrounded by grasslands and woodlands. There is a car park, small playground, picnic benches and a network of accessible paths.

This is a good walk, 4 miles long, albeit with one or two steeper sections. The route takes in the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, country lanes, weavers’ cottages and Saddleworth Church before returning through the village of Uppermill.

  • I felt refreshed. This is probably one of my favourite walks so far

  • Company is what defines you. Always be in good company.

  • advised people to take painkillers before the walk and also bring walking sticks and tubigrip too

  • That I really enjoy challenging walks.

  • Sticks can provide some support for balance and joints, walking backwards downhill can be useful

  • What a beautiful walk. Felt great after doing the walk. Very fulfilling and got my steps in too - over 12,900 steps and the day is still young!

  • Probably the best walk ever!! Rivers, more than 6 spectacular waterfalls, woodland, foot bridges, flowers. I’m so glad I went despite the early start.

What have you learned today?

  • Getting out into the wild is necessary

  • Bring light layers to take off and on. Also a light waterproof jacket

  • If it is meant to be, it will be. Jzk Br Amir, Sr Hafsa and Mona for help with getting me there and back safely.

  • The walkie talkies were good. The rest breaks after lunch were long, would have been good if they were shorter. Would have been good if we got the Ingleton postcode earlier if we wanted the option to drive straight there meeting at Bagley added an extra hour to my journey time although it was good to have car share options.
