About the event
This is a three-mile walk around the hilltop of Werneth Low with extensive views over the South Pennines, Derbyshire, the Welsh Hills, the Cheshire Plain and the conurbation of Greater Manchester. Much of the route straddles the border of Tameside and Stockport boroughs.
Recreation facilities available in Werneth Low Country Park include surfaced footpaths, horse-riding and cycle routes, picnic areas, view finders, informal gardens, and at many locations seats are provided for visitors to rest and take time to appreciate this unique area.
As the walk route includes styles and some ascents and descents, it is not rated as suitable for wheelchair or pushchair-users.
Toilets and refreshments are also available, according to Tameside Council, at the Lower Higham Visitor Centre where the walk starts and finishes. The Hare and Hounds Inn is also just southwest of the Quarry Car Park on the route.
