About the event
This is a good walk, albeit with one or two steeper sections. The route takes in the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, country lanes, weavers’ cottages and Saddleworth Church before returning through the village of Uppermill. There are a number of options to shorten the route along the way or to avoid some of the hills.
The village of Uppermill lies nestled in the hills in the middle of the area known as Saddleworth – a characterful district that was formerly part of Yorkshire. Uppermill is a busy, thriving village with lovely canal towpath walks, many small independent shops and plenty of places to eat and drink.
Because of the varied terrain and gradients involved, this route is not rated as suitable for wheelchair and pushchair-users.
May include some steep paths, open country or longer distances (up to 10 miles/16 km). Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing recommended.
There are toilet facilities and a cafe nearby. The walk should end by 1pm
PLEASE NOTE: We will park in Newbank Garden Centre car park. The car park closes at 5:30pm and the gates are locked at this date so YOU MUST LEAVE THE CAR PARK BY 5:30pm
