Marple - Mellor Cross -Strines 10am

8 mile moderate challenge including sections of the new Greater Manchester Ringway Trail. Marple lies at the southeast edge of Greater Manchester and is a great base for some wonderful walks. From the roadside start the walk immediately descends into the Goyt Valley, passing the Roman Lakes which used to power the mighty Mellor Mill. We pass the remains of the mill,once the largest cotton mill in the world. A steady climb on paths and bridleways through Mellor Golf course brings us up to the summit at Mellor Cross with fantastic views towards Marple and Manchester. The views open up behind Mellor Cross and we take a flat bridleway heading east. Kinder Scout can be seen in the distance.
