The stone surfaced footpath from the car park to the top of Mam Tor will reward you with one of the most dramatic viewpoints in the Peak District. Stunning views and a variety of landscapes. Challenges include steep inclines and rocky descents. Wearing hiking boots and starting early are recommended

Mostly moderate walking on good paths, with some steps and steep climbs. Several gates and stiles. Please note that steep paths may be slippery after wet weather. This is a beautiful route in a popular area of the Peak District, taking you up Mam Tor, one of the most iconic hills in England, and returning via Cave Dale. Starting in the charming village of Castleton, follow Hollowford Road northward to the base of the Great Ridge before continuing up the hillside to reach Hollins Cross, the lowest point along the ridge. It derives its name from a cross that once stood on this spot, though it vanished by 1905. However, a memorial was erected near this spot by the Ramblers Association in 1964 to honour the memory of Tom Hyett, an avid walker.
